Making HerStory 6: “The Era of Our Dreams”

 

 March 1, 2011—Join The Thickart Collaborative, in conjunction with the Center for Green Urbanism and Authentic Contemporary Art for the sixth annual Making HerStory, women’s art celebration–a month full of various unifying events celebrating women artists in all genres. The celebration will take place at The Center for Green Urbanism, 3938 Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC; March 1-31, 2011.

Making HerStory celebrates the vast and diverse forms of creativity offered by women artists. With this being the sixth year of Making HerStory, the creators have found a renewed energy among many of the artists in the Making HerStoryfamily. “This year’s theme is The Era of Our Dreams,exemplifying a new energy arising from the ashes of the last decade’s struggles, into a new era,” says Michelle D. Parrish, founder of the Making HerStory celebration, “Making HerStory 6 is about collaboration, growth, and sustainability.”

The Making HerStory 6 series will kick off with a Grand Opening Reception Friday, March 4, 2011, 6:30 pm-8: 30 pm at the Center for Green Urbanism, in Washington, DC’s Ward 7. This event will feature music mixed by female online syndicated radio DJ, DJ Fusion of Fuse Box Radio. There will also be refreshments by the female foodies at Art.Food.Life. Making HerStory 6 events are as follows:

Making HerStory 6: The Era of Our Dreams,” art exhibit, Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery at the Center for Green Urbanism, featuring the work of several local women visual artists, March 1-31, 2011. The Center is open for viewing Monday-Friday, 10 – 5 pm, weekends by appointment

· Grand Opening Reception, Friday, March 4, 2011, 6:30-8:30pm, featuring DJ Fusion & refreshments by Art.Food.Life.

· EP Launch Party for Acclaimed Singer/Songwriter Stephanie Renee, Thursday, March 10, 2011, 6:30 -8:30 pm

· Girls Scouts Service Project; “Dream Jars: a sustainable art project for girl dreamers” – Saturday, March 19, 2011, 1 pm – 4 pm

· “Who Does She Think She Is,” film viewing and panel discussion hosted by Shawn Yancy of WTTG, Fox Evening News; Sunday, March 20, 2011, 2 pm -5 pm
