The Tubman-Mahan Gallery’s Advisory Committee is made up of a group of people dedicated to the mission of the Center for Green Urbanism. Each person brings a unique set of characteristics, background and expertise ranging from Information Technology to Project Management. We are thankful that this group has been so supportive during the past year and look forward to their continued efforts!
The Committee speaks weekly bi-weekly via conference call. There are three sub-committees in which committee members work through: Strategic Planning, Upcoming Events and Shows/Jurying, and Sponsorships/Partnerships. Links to further information and current projects are listed below.

Zandra Chestnut

Name 1 sustainable practice you perform: I recycle used coffee grinds by adding them to indoor/outdoor plants.
What do you do in your spare time? Put my camera to use by spending time outdoors and shooting.
Why is the Tubman-Mahan Gallery an organization you support and want to be a part of? I am an artist (photographer) and felt the need to support spaces in my community that give attention and exposure to local artists whose creativity needs to be shared and promoted.
Sandra Davis
Job Title/Company Affiliation: Financial Services Professional/ New York Life and Independent Green Artist
Name 1 sustainable practice you perform: Since 1998, I have recycled paper items, newspaper, magazines, wrapping paper by using them as my medium.
What you like to do in your spare time? Running outdoors, fund raising, reading and working with the elderly
Why is the Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery an organization you support and want to be a part of? It has given me an opportunity to create new work as well as a platform to show it. I am stepping out of my shell and sharing what I do!
Fun facts: I am one of 8 kids!! I have been married 29 years to another artist/photographer.

Name 1 sustainable practice you perform: I use ceiling fans all over the house to keep cool during the summer and reverse the settings to circulate warm air during the winter
What you like to do in your spare time: Relax with friends and watch foreign films
Why is the Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery an organization you support and want to be a part of? It is truly important for the East of the River community to develop programs and spaces that enrich our commitment to community, culture and well being. The Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery is fostering this effort in Ward 7. It is a hub of energy and life in an under-served community, how can I not support something so great!

Why is the Tubman-Mahan Art Gallery an organization you support and want to be a part of? It is a place born out of the same neighborhoods that gave rise to me. THe ideals that shape it make it a grassroots extension of the work I do everyday. It is truly a natural alliance.
Fun Fact: I’m a self-proclaimed Recycle-aholic.

Name 1 sustainable practice you perform: I walk to work. I still own a car, but only drive about once a week, to go visit my parents, and lately I’ve been considering getting rid of it entirely.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I have always had an aptitude for the mechanical, which has contributed toward my job, but also toward my outside interests, most notably photography.
Why is the Tubman-Mahan gallery an organization you support and want to be a part of? I have had the pleasure of working with Zandra Chestnut in my office for several years and had the opportunity to share her passion for the Center, for her photography, and for all things Green. I consider myself lucky to be a part of this wonderful organization.
Fun Facts: I studied Forestry in College, which most people seem to find amusing since I now work primarily in the IT world, however it was born out of love of camping and hiking, which I did a lot of as a kid, and don’t get to do nearly as much as I’d like to as an adult.
